The 21st Annual Salute to Nursing Golf Tournament
A little over two decades ago, a former faculty member of the UTMB School of Nursing thought of a fun, innovative way to raise money for student scholarships. As a result, an annual Golf Tournament was fashioned.
The Salute to Nursing Tournament held at the prestigious Galveston Country Club, has become one of the most popular events on campus and throughout the Galveston Community. The tournament has become the School’s largest fund raising event with all proceeds benefiting nursing DNP and PhD scholarships. This event has raised over $2 million towards student scholarships over the years.
As you know, there are daily reports of the critical shortage of nursing professionals and of nursing-to-patient ratios in our hospitals, emergency rooms, and clinics across our nation. UTMB’s School of Nursing is dedicated to educating students and to fulfill these needs by significantly increasing student enrollment.
This year we are also celebrating the 125th anniversary of the School of Nursing. The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing, established in 1890 as the John Sealy Hospital Training School for Nurses, is the oldest school of nursing in the Southwest.
