Our Committment to Diversity, Inclusion and Equity

Dear School of Nursing Community,

As nurses, we make a pledge to promote, advocate for, and strive to protect the health, safety, and rights of our patients. As advocates, we must continue to speak out against injustice and bias in all of its forms, consider the welfare of humanity and act with compassion. As a school we embrace diversity, inclusion, and equity and are committed to these values. And as a leader and a nurse, I am committed to demonstrating courage, willingness to listen and learn from others, and most importantly, to help drive policies and practices to ensure equity for our students, faculty, staff and communities we serve.

We stand with our UTMB community in ensuring a healthy and safe environment. I want to echo the sentiments of both our Executive Vice President and Provost, Dr. Charles Mouton and President ad interim, Dr. Ben Raimer, who shared messages on UTMB's strong support for diversity and to our communities of color:

We understand that the state of affairs in the nation today have sparked a myriad of emotions for our faculty, staff, and students. As health professionals, remember that in order for you to care for others you must first care for yourself. During this time you may find solace in one of the campus resources available to you.
