Areas of Research, Teaching, And Clinical Expertise and Scholarship

  • Dr. Wagner completed her PhD at University of Texas Medical Branch in 2020 with a dissertation focused on Planting Seeds: The perceptions and experiences of WIC peer counselors as they interacted with mothers making their infant feeding decisions.
  • Dr. Wagner's teaching philosophy is influenced by her interests in policy, ethics, public health, the intersection of population health and nursing concepts including humanitarianism and sharing evidence-based nursing knowledge and experiences with students. Dr. Wagner has experience in baccalaureate nursing education and perinatal nursing.
  • Clinical Practice: Dr. Wagner has practiced in a variety of roles within perinatal nursing since 1994. In 2015, she opened the first donor human milk depot in the Houston Methodist Hospital system at that time. She networks to increase breastfeeding rates and donor human milk donations in the US. As a full-time faculty member, she continues to contribute to clinical practice through her role as a bedside nurse primarily in the NICU setting.
