UTMB offers opportunities for students to get involved in the community, lead and mentor others, and develop both personally and professionally. Along with over 90 UTMB student organizations, the School of Nursing is proud to offer a variety of leadership opportunities and interest groups to fit the needs of our students.

  • Peer Mentors

The purpose of the SON Peer Mentor program is to assist first-semester nursing students with their transition to nursing school and to develop supportive and encouraging relationships between new and current students.

  • SON Student Ambassadors

The Student Ambassador Program is a leadership opportunity for students who are dedicated to serving and representing UTMB and the School of Nursing. Student Ambassadors provide campus tours, administer nursing outreach initiatives, and serve as a UTMB representative on campus and in the community.

Ambassadors are current students who act as a link between the university and the public. They use their own experiences to inform prospective students and families about our school and programs offered.

To become a Student Ambassador please contact the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs at (409) 772-8328 or Lauren Homan at lnhoman@utmb.edu.

  • Tiny Toes

Tiny Toes is an organization dedicated to enhancing the knowledge of students interested in the neonatal field through volunteer efforts and educational opportunities.

Being a member of Tiny Toes has been one of the highlights of my time in nursing school! It provided me an opportunity to serve babies and families both on the NICU/Pedi floors at UTMB, as well as throughout the Galveston community. I was able to gain experience in a hospital setting with the patient populations I was hoping to work with, as well as learn from students in all different disciplines about their role in caring for those patients. I also met so many wonderful people who are interested in the same specialties that I'm interested in!

  • Student Nurses Against Cancer

The mission of Student Nurses Against Cancer (SNAC) is to provide students with an avenue to serve patients and their families in our community who have been afflicted by cancer. This organization will give students the opportunity to grow in their skillset, through faculty mentorship and by providing hands-on activities with cancer patients and families. SNAC will better prepare students for being a compassionate and caring nurse.

  • Men Entering Nursing (Men in Nursing)

The purpose of this organization is to provide a social support network for the entry of men into the nursing profession. Our end goal is to encourage more men to enter the nursing field and to instill positive perceptions of male nurses through our actions.

Student Interest Groups

  • Oncology

The purpose of this organization is to get different schools of UTMB together who share the interest in working in the field of oncology in the future. Our meetings consist of doctors, nurses, physical therapists, etc. who already work with oncology patients, telling us about their on the job experiences and answering our questions about how to get to where they are in their careers today.

A list of all active student organizations on campus and more information about starting a student organization can be found on the UTMB Office of Student Life's website.
