Professional Licensure

Important information for enrolled and prospective students regarding nursing programs that lead to licensure:

Although our programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, thereby making BSN graduates eligible to sit for national licensure (NCLEX-RN) and MSN/DNP graduates eligible to sit for national certification (ANCC, AANP, CP and/or AANP-CP), thus meeting requirements for RN and APRN professional licensure in the state of Texas, we cannot guarantee that the UTMB nursing programs meets all the requirements for professional licensure in other states (e.g., some states have specific topical requirements). Applicants are encouraged to check the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) website for state specific requirements.

Each state has its own licensing board and Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure requirements. Although the State of Texas and the University of Texas Medical Branch are members of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), some state boards of nursing or state higher education commissions may impose additional restrictions for offering distance education courses within their state.
